Plan Managed

About Plan Managed

Plan management means a separate plan manager pays providers for the participant and keeps track of the budget. The plan manager is a funded NDIS support in its own right.

It is often described as a middle option. The plan manager handles invoices and records, and plan-managed funding can be used with registered and unregistered providers. Because plan management is its own funded item, it does not reduce the money available for supports.

At a glance

This is general information, not financial or funding advice. Program names, amounts and eligibility rules change over time. Always confirm current detail with the relevant official body before relying on it.

How to prepare before arranging support

  1. Ask a plan manager or support coordinator what the day-to-day experience is like, such as how invoices and records are handled.
  2. Check that plan management is funded as its own item in your plan, so it does not reduce your support funding.
  3. Choose registered or unregistered providers as suits you. Plan-managed funding works with both.
  4. Notice how quickly they respond and how clearly they report your spending.

Frequently asked questions

Does paying a plan manager reduce my support funding?

No. Plan management is a funded item in its own right, so it does not come out of the money for your supports.

Who can confirm what Plan Managed means for me?

Ask the NDIA. A provider can explain its services and billing, but it cannot make a binding funding decision for the responsible body.

Does a provider listing prove it accepts plan managed?

No. A directory or public-register listing describes a provider and the supports it lists. Confirm the funding arrangement, approval and current availability with the provider before booking.

What if the rules or my circumstances change?

Check the current guidance with the NDIA, tell your providers promptly and update written agreements or approvals before relying on the changed arrangement.
